Paul started composing at school and read music at Cambridge University where he was Music Director of Cambridge Footlights. After a successful first career he is now pursuing a second career as a composer working primarily in film and choral music.
His music reflects his classical training but is diverse in style deploying a wide range of sonorities, both recorded and synthesised. His music is characterised by strong melodic content and he is preoccupied with the relationship between music, narrative and images. Paul's music has been performed and broadcast in the UK and elsewhere in Europe. Representation for film music is by SMA Talent.
Royal Albert Hall premiere
In December 2017 Paul's first Christmas carol, Ring the Bells, was premiered by the London Philharmonic Choir at the Royal Albert Hall in two concerts introduced by Alan Titchmarsh. The video area of this site includes a short film about this.
Best original score award
Paul's first feature film score, for A Reason to Leave, won Best Original Score at the London International Filmmakers Festival in London in February 2017. Written and directed by Norman Gregory and filmed in Dorset and Tuscany, the film has won numerous other awards including Best Film and Best Drama.
Paul has been commissioned by the British Museum to compose a work for performance by the London Philharmonic Choir at concerts being held at the museum on 21 and 23 June. He has also been commissioned by Garsington Opera Learning and Participation, with librettist Jessica Duchen, to compose a youth opera for their youth opera company for summer 2019.
Paul has started working on Norman Gregory's second feature film, Encounter. He has recently completed work on a documentary for Paula Palacios of Morada Films and has been retained as composer for a major UK/US feature film based around 1960's formula one racing. Fund raising is currently in progress.
Over the last several years Paul completed scores for 16 short films, nine of them made by RADA Films.
Belitha Studios is Paul's home studio in Islington, based around a Steinway model B and a fully equipped integrated composing/ recording console. Its primary purpose is to provide a work/ recording space for his own music but it also serves as a platform for private recitals given by up and coming young artists.
A CD comprising a selection of his own compositions was recorded at Belitha Studios and released on his own label, Belitha Studios, in 2014.
